Congrats to @polinmuseum for work on Jewish Cultural Heritage , well deserved, tweeted Johannes Börmann‏n, Deputy European Commission Coordinator on combating Antisemitism.

The Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw was awarded a top honor from the European Union for a project promoting Jewish cultural heritage.

The Europa Nostra prize for preserving cultural heritage was presented at a ceremony at the Museum in the Polish capital.

The award is the highest distinction of its kind in Europe recognising outstanding achievements in protecting, researching and promoting cultural legacy. The museum is the first Polish institution to win the prize.

“The museum, in aiming to educate and conserve the memory of Jewish people has established a safe place for intercultural dialogue,” the jury said.

The Europa Nostra award was established by the European Commission in 2002.

The prize is not the first distinction granted to the museum, which received the European Museum of the Year award in 2016. (aba/pk)
