An insightful discussion, sponsored by UJE, took place in Kyiv at the YES Annual Meeting on the topic “Antisemitism in Ukraine: Russian Disinformation and On-the-Ground Reality” on 14 September 2018. Participants spoke on a wide array of related issues, ranging from analyses of recent studies that show Ukraine has one of the lowest rates of anti-Semitism in Europe, to tactics used by the Kremlin to discredit Ukraine.
The participants of this engaging panel were some of the most prominent minds engaged in Ukrainian-Jewish relations and issues related to Ukraine. They included John Herbst, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, who is now director of The Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center; Bernard-Henry Levy, philosopher and author; Vyacheslav Likhachev, historian, journalist, political scientist and social activist; Vladyslav Davidzon, journalist and editor of The Odessa Review; Berel Rodal, Board Member and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter; and Adrian Karatnycky, UJE’s Co-Director. Mr. Karatnycky moderated the event.
