EAJC Delegation Meets With President of Albania

On June 19, 2014, the delegation of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress met with the President of the Republic of Albania Bujar Nishani.

Michael. Chlenov thanked President Nishani for the hospitality and stressed that the mission of the delegation;s visit is to open doors for the Jewish community. He expressed particular appreciation of the impressive support of Albanians for the Jewish community during World War II. “This gesture, generous and historic, should be proudly shared and imprinted in the memory of all Jews, wherever they may be,” Mr.Chlenov emphasized. He added that this is an excellent basis for further promoting the multidimensional relations between Albania and Israel.

President Nishani also voiced his appreciation of the visit as well as of the fact that the history of hospitality and rescue of Jews in Albania is so broadly acknowledged and valued. While expressing further appreciation for the excellent bilateral level of relations, which he also noted during his visit to Israel, the Head of the Albanian State stressed that there is still room to increase cooperation between the two countries in all fields. President Nishani added that the active presence of the Israeli Embassy in Tirana, and also the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, will undoubtedly play an important role in this regard.
