The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) will be giving a Torah scroll to the Burgas synagogue to commemorate the Jews killed in the attack at the Burgas airport two years ago.
The giving of the Torah scroll is the initiative of EAJC General Council Chairman Josef Zisels, and the idea was financially supported by Mikhail Mirilashvili, who had been Acting EAJC President until February 17, 2014.

On July 18, 2012, a suicide bomber killed himself at the Burgas airport, on a bus taking Israeli tourists to the Sunny Beach resort.

Five Jews had been killed in the attack. It is customary in Judaism to commemorate the dead by giving a Torah scroll (Sefer Torah) to a synagogue.

The EAJC scroll will be introduced into the synagogue and the Jewish center Beit Habad at the Sunny Beach resort, where many Israeli tourists come for the summer, and will serve to strengthen Jewish life and Jewish awareness in the region.
