The Director General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Haim Ben-Yaakov has participated in the ceremony of introduction of a Torah scroll to the Knesset. The scroll was written to honor the memory of Jews who gave their lives fighting the Nazis: hundreds and thousands Jewish soldiers, partisans, fighters of the Jewish resistance in the ghetto and in the underground. The idea of introducing a Torah scroll to the Knesset belongs to German Zakharyayev, a famous philanthropist and the President of the International Mountain Jew Charity Fund STMEGI.

As Haim Ben-Yaakov stressed, “The memory of the events of World War II, which are relatively recent in the long history of the Jewish people, are nonetheless an important part of the Jewish identity of modern Jews who live in Israel and in communities of the Euro-Asian region. It is important to make efforts to preserve the memory of the Catastrophe, the heroism and rebirth of the Jewish people, and pass on this memory to newer generations both in the academy, through conferences, the publishing of documents, and interviewing witnesses, and through creative pursuits, such as the cinema, books, and theater.”
