“Sources of Tolerance” Camp Begins in Karpathians
21.07.2016, Region The junior group of the International Inter-Ethnic Children’s Camp “Sources of Tolerance” has begun work on July 20, 2016, and will continue until July 31. This year’s camp is being held in the Ukrainian Carpathians and is being held with the support of the Kyiv office of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress.
The camp allows 108 children age 8 to 12 to immerse themselves into the diversity of ethnic cultures. The participants come from 17 Ukrainian ethnic communities, including Armenians, Bulgarians, Greeks, Georgians, Jews, Crimean Tatars, Lithuanians, Moldovans, Polish, Germans, Russians, Romanians, Tatars, Ukrainians, Chechens and children of internally-displaced persons from the site of the Ukrainian anti-terroristic operation.
The 2016 camp was organized by the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine (CNCU), with the financial support of OOO Infopulse-Ukraine, Stiftung Zuverzicht für Kinderen, the International Renaissance Foundation, the Kyiv office of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, the Association of Jewish Communities and Organizations of Ukraine (VAAD), private patrons (Vladimir Shpilogfel, Anatoliy Otchenash, Oleg Vishnyakov, Igor Kerez) and parents’ donations. The project was also given administrative support by the following: The Lviv City Council, the “Slavsky” recreation centre, the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Center for Bulgarian Culture (Odesa), Shakotis-Ukraine (Kyiv), the Ukraine Fire Insurance Company (Kyiv), Infinity Print (Kyiv), printing house ALT-LTD (Chernivtsi), Farminvest (Chernivtsi), A-Transfer (Lviv), Novaya Pochta, Epicenter, and other.
After the opening ceremony, the camp will hold days dedicated to the study of the following cultures: Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek, Crimean Tatar, Lithuanian, Jewish, German, Romanian and Ukrainian. The children will also visit the city of Lviv. The camp will end in a festival of cultures.
The senior Ukrainian group has already ended its 2016 tour, and a 6th Moldovan “Sources of Tolerance” camp has begun work on July 18.
