In memory of Shimon Peres
28.09.2016, Region The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress mourns the passing away of an outstanding Israeli politician, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shimon Peres.
The story of his life is inseparable from the history of the State of Israel. Assistant of David Ben-Gurion, Knesset deputy, minister in twelve governments, three times head of the Ministry of Defense, twice Minister of Foreign Affairs, head of the cabinet, the President – a list of posts that Peres had served, would take more than one line.
All the 70 years of his political career, he served to the ideas of Zionism, doing everything for strengthening and development of the Jewish state. A young man, who came to the Land of Israel from Belorussian Vishnevo, and worked his way to the president of the country, Perez himself can be a symbol of the Jewish state.
One of those who laid the foundations of Israel's military might, and a staunch fighter for peace, tough politician and a wise philosopher – such was the ninth President of the Jewish state, Shimon Peres.
Peres was a good friend of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, he many times met with the EAJC leaders and took part in the events organized by the Congress. Those who associated with the EAJC remember visit of President Peres to the synagogue “Beit Rachel” in Astana. They remember his eloquent speech at the meeting with the Jewish community of Moscow in the framework of his visit to Russia during the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism.
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, to all citizens of the State of Israel. A bright image of Shimon Peres, a prominent politician and a remarkable man will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the People of Israel.
